SUMMER PROGRAMS

ENSEMBLES

JAZZ ENSEMBLE (BIG BAND) 


Grades: entering grade middle and high (audition or instructor permission)

Teacher: Ryan Piccolo

Description: Students will play big band music. What a great way to maintain and further develop skills learned during the school year, all while having fun with friends. 

Big Band Instruments: percussion, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass. 

Prerequisites: Minimum one year of band and instructor permission.

Times: Tuesdays  1-2:30pm   

Dates: Rehearsals 6/27, 7/11, 7/18, 7/25, 8/8, 8/15 with performance TBA

JAZZ ENSEMBLE (IMPROV)


Grades: 6-12 (or instructor permission)

Teacher: Ryan Piccolo

Description: Explore music through your own creativity. We will dive deeper into jazz improvisation by applying introductory jazz theory to classic jazz songs.

Prerequisites: New participants will be asked to audition prior to enrollment. 

Times: Thursdays 1:00 - 2:30pm

Dates: Rehearsals  6/29, 7/6, 7/13, 7/20, 7/27, 8/10, 8/17 with performance TBA

CAMPS

BAND CAMP @ the UNITED


Grades: 3rd and up 

Teacher: Larry Shea, Joy Smith, Ben Boisclair

Description: Summer vacation is the perfect time to bring our local youth together through making music. Students will have the opportunity to begin their musical journey or expand their knowledge in fun and creative ways, starting with hands-on experience in the classroom and then putting their new skills to work by participating in an ensemble. Ukulele and voice work and more! Students will show off their talents with a final performance at the end of the week.

PARTICIPANTS WILL NEED TO BRING A BAG LUNCH AND A SNACK

Prerequisites: None 

Times: 10am-3pm

THEATER CAMP @ the KNICK: Summer in the City


Grades: 6-12

Teacher: Joy Smith, Victoria Hamilton. 

Description: Students will dive deep into the world of musical theater as they participate in activities surrounding many aspects of acting, singing, and dancing. Lessons will focus on voice, improvisation, scene work, monologues, and introductions to various dance styles. The camp will conclude with a cabaret/variety show featuring skits, monologues, and musical numbers. West side story, In the Heights, Annie, 42nd street, etc. 

Notes: bring a packed lunch and snack, Showcase Friday parent arrival at noon.

Prerequisites: None

Times: All Week 9am-1pm

Dates: July 17th - July 21st

KEYBOARD FUN-DAMENTALS CLASS


Ages: high school through adult

Teacher: Patrice Newman

Description: Feel more comfortable when you pull up to the keys. Through fun music and with fun people discover how to feel better when you play! Learn in a small group to be clear-minded and not intimidated. 

Prerequisites: At least 1 year of lessons or instructor permission.

Times: Mondays 4-5:30pm

IVORY MAGIC CLASS: A piano ensemble for up to eight hands


Grades: For young players with at least one year of lessons through middle school.

Teacher: Lori Smith

Description: Have you been taking piano lessons for at least a year?  Do you enjoy playing duets with your teacher or "Heart and Soul" with your friend?  Then Ivory Magic is just for you!  We will learn and practice together a magical song that we play together as a duet, trio or quartet and then share with family and friends!

Times: Thursdays 3-4:30pm

WORKSHOPS

OVERCOMING STAGE FRIGHT: “Being Me! Overcoming Stage Fright and More!”


Age Group: Middle – High School, or adult too

Teacher: Valerie Walsh

Description: Designed curriculum to support students overcoming stage fright. In a fun,

safe, experiential environment we explore: Writing out fears, Talking out fears, Fear Buster exercises and tools, art of supporting others. Includes mini concerts for practice.
